Dr Elena Pizzo is a Senior Health Economist in the Department of Applied Health Research at UCL. She holds a PhD in Economics and Management and an MSc in Economics and Management of Health Care Services. Her main research area includes economic evaluation of health care technologies and interventions, clinical decision analysis and, more generally, measurement of health and distributional aspects of health policy. She has expertise in health economic evaluations of complex interventions, particularly in primary care, prevention, dementia and maternity care. In her previous post in Italy she investigated the causes of the high rate of Caesarean Sections during delivery and compared the costs and effects of alternative delivery methods. She also undertook an economic evaluation of a Regional Colorectal Cancer Screening Program. She is currently involved in the economic evaluation of a new model of treatment for patients with dementia.
